Who I am

My name is Damien O’Connor, and I work as a humanistic and integrative counselling psychotherapist, grounded in a person-centred approach. I aim to offer a genuine, respectful space where you will be met as you are, without judgement or assumptions.

My interest in psychotherapy began early. In 1997, after completing a twenty-week introduction to counselling course, I was advised to gain more life experience before pursuing formal training. At the time, that was difficult to hear. With hindsight, it was sound advice.

Over the years that followed, I worked in a wide range of roles, including carer, taxi driver, hospital porter, and advanced paramedic with the ambulance service for almost two decades. These experiences shaped how I understand people, distress, resilience, and the realities of life beyond theory or textbooks.

I later completed an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy. The training deepened my clinical understanding and reinforced something I continue to hold at the centre of my work: you are the expert in your own life, and therapy works best when this is respected.

My own healing journey has been significant, and I feel privileged to walk alongside others when they decide they are ready to take that first step.
